How to Build a Sustainable Men's Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is a simple idea. Own fewer things. Choose them carefully. Wear them for years.
The sustainable version of that idea adds one more condition: make sure what you own is actually what it claims to be. Not greenwashed basics with synthetic blends hidden in the construction. Not trend pieces dressed up as timeless. Actual quality, made from materials that do what the label says.
Here's how to build one around clothing that genuinely delivers on that.
Start with what you wear every day
The foundation of any capsule wardrobe is the clothing you reach for without thinking. For most men that means underwear, t-shirts, and comfortable bottoms. Get these right and everything else follows.

Underwear
This is the layer closest to your skin, worn longest, and replaced most often. It's also the category most affected by hidden synthetic content. Our men's cotton poplin boxer shorts are cut from 100% cotton with no nylon, no elastane, and no synthetic blends anywhere in the construction. Three pairs of genuinely well made boxer shorts will outlast a drawer full of multipack alternatives.
T-shirts
A good organic cotton t-shirt is one of the most versatile garments in a wardrobe. Ours are made using the Remill® process, produced from 50% recycled organic cotton and 50% GOTS certified organic cotton, digitally printed in the UK. Designed to be returned and remade rather than discarded. Buy two or three in colours you'll actually wear.

Joggers and sweatpants
Comfortable bottoms that work at home, travelling, and on casual days out. Our organic cotton joggers are cut in a slim tapered fit from 330gsm GOTS certified organic cotton, made in London. The sweatpants offer a looser fit in heavyweight 340gsm deadstock organic cotton. Both are single fibre construction throughout.
Add what you need for the season

Swim shorts
If you spend any time near water, a pair of genuinely well made swim shorts earns its place in a capsule wardrobe. Our SEAQUAL® recycled swim shorts are made from 70% ocean plastic and 30% rPET, quick drying, and built to last multiple seasons. Available in five colours.
Jewellery
A single well chosen piece does more than a collection of cheap accessories. Our stone beaded bracelets are handcrafted in Wales from natural semi-precious stones, designed for everyday wear.

A note on colour
Neutral colours build more versatile wardrobes. Grey marl, navy, charcoal, and white work across every combination without effort. These are the colours our range is built around, not because they're safe, but because they're the ones you'll still be reaching for in five years.
The principle behind it
A sustainable capsule wardrobe isn't about restriction. It's about choosing well once rather than choosing adequately repeatedly.
Every piece in the Rolf Skeldon range is made from materials we can fully account for, in UK factories we know personally, to a standard we're prepared to stand behind. That's the foundation of a wardrobe worth building.
